English at Lode Heath follows the National Literacy Framework based on non-fiction, fiction, drama and poetry texts.
Students are taught to meet the following criteria – to inform, explain and describe; to persuade, argue and advise, to imagine, explore, entertain and to analyse, review and comment.
At KS4 most students study English and English Literature and will be required to produce coursework for both subjects.
Geography:
Students are taught to understand their immediate surroundings and develop knowledge of places and environments around the world

History:
A wide range of activities is introduced to help understand the various periods of history from Roman times to the present day

Students are integrated into mainstream classes
Support Staff regularly work alongside teachers and students

The department offers a dedicated ICT room to help students improve their reading and writing skills
Students benefit from the small, friendly group work that takes place within the department
LRC:
The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is a well stocked, conveniently situated and popular area.
Open from 8 am every day, pupils are encouraged to use it for homework, private study and personal recreational reading
Independent study is encouraged with pupils using the LRC in lesson time for research
A reading culture is promoted through a variety of activities including Reading Club, competitions, reading challenges and Book Awards
